Inspired by the last decades, starting from the 70s rock/glam, the 80s hiphop, the 90s minimalism, techno, pop art, and other artistic streams, EGR will present a stylish silhouette with a strong influence on these themes of the past, that have made an impact not only in the history of fashion but also in the realities of society, economy and politics.
For this spring-summer of 2008, EGR's collection will mix and play with fabrics that are considered casual and sporty, with themes and concepts of rebellion and give them life with simple elegant and basic cuts with important details that will give way for new combinations.
EGR reveals the past and manifests the future of a recycled generation.
Even though women have been marginalized throughout their history, the ornaments that accompany her clothing have kept evolving and diversifying.
The designer focuses on this gadget of summer that has been socially and culturally accepted short of an epoch ago, evolving from the hand of textiles and also portraying the lifestyle of each decade starting from 1880 up to date.
With this clothing item in mind, Denise Marchebout looks towards diversity with excellent craftsmanship and a delicate treatment of crochet and braided (Lycra) spandex, among other styling ornaments that show us how far her creativity goes for this spring season of 2008.
Taking her inspiration mainly from the feminine silhouette of the 30s, back when the swimming suit made its first appearance to the public, and from the famous pin up girls of the 50s that along with the scandalous "bikini" would provoke both social admiration and rejection towards the women who sported them, by a still puritan and conservative society that was not ready to embrace this new free and feminine attitude, that did not want anything else but to create a free and respectful social environment and more tolerance for women in the future.
Because of this rejection and many other difficulties that women were facing at the time, a strong feminist movement came about in which women refused to be looked at as a sexual object and demanded to society a chance to show her capabilities and to establish her autonomy and freedom of expression.
The provocative sensuality that we find in each of the pieces of this collection does not only make reference to the erotic values that define the feminine figure but also gives a small tribute to the brave, entrepreneur woman that fights for her ideals.
